Betsy enjoys all kinds of quilts--the mix of fabrics and the texture of the quilting stitch whether by hand or by machine. Her current passion is interpreting her own photographs in fabric, from fairly realistic depictions to stylized renderings that have only a marginal connection to the original photograph. She enjoys the challenge of using only commercially available fabrics, to include hand-dyed fabric by other artists, as well as beads, yarns and found objects. Betsy finds her quilts decide for themselves what they’re going to be and loves the journey of discovery in each one.

I made this quilt for an online challenge to use only black, white and pink fabrics. I used photos for the background, covered with a shiny black sheer fabric, representing reflections in a mirror. I composed the design on the computer, combining the background photos, my drawing (done from another photo), and the tile floor which I drew in on the computer. Machine pieced and quilted; hand beaded. Commercial fabrics.
