Textiles have been Joyce's favored medium since she was a child. First in sewing garments for her own use in her teens, to designing historical costumes for local re-enactors in later years, eventually leading her to take a more artistic route with the medium she loves most.
Free-motion machine embroidery, embellishments and a variety of quilting techniques are used to create Joyce's work. Never satisfied to keep things the same, she is continually working toward expanding her understanding in the textile and art world. A favorite quote, "I think I'm painting a picture of two women but it may turn out to be a landscape."(Willem de Kooning) is a constant reminder that art evolves. You never know where your route will take you unless you take the next step.
